Dear valued customer,

We’ve noticed that there’s been an increasingly recurring trend of scammers stealing from unsuspecting victims by pretending to be staff from banks and other legitimate organisations. So, while we’re continuously improving your safety and security when you bank with us, there are extra precautions you can take should you ever get approached by such fraudsters.

Lookout for these recent bank
impersonation scams in Malaysia

If you’ve found yourself in any of these situations, here are some tips on what you can do to safeguard yourself.

I was added to an HSBC group chat promising investments with guaranteed high returns

HSBC Malaysia does not promise returns and promote our investment products via any messaging apps.

Block the user who added you to the group chat, report and exit the group chat via the in-app settings and call our Contact Centre to lodge a report.

I was asked to pay the outstanding balance on an unknown credit card

HSBC Malaysia never requests customers to make any payments to third parties.

Ignore the message and report it to us.

If you have an HSBC credit card, you can check your e-statements securely via HSBC Online and Mobile Banking.

I received an SMS/email asking me to log on and update my online banking details

HSBC Malaysia will never send communications with a link requesting you to log on to your Online Banking or provide any personal details.

Don’t click on any links or provide any personal information and call us to lodge a report.

If you suspect that your account has been compromised, activate the Kill Switch by calling our Contact Centre, pressing the ‘*’ key and selecting ‘1’.
