Definition of Account Takeover
The act of impersonating an Account Holder by means of using his/her information, such as birth date, address, name and bank account information.
 
Warning Signs of a Takeover
Your regular bank or credit card statements fail to appear. You notice that some of your mail is missing.
A debt collection agency contacts you for payment dues you have not incurred; your credit card statement includes transactions you have not made; you are approved or denied credit for accounts you know nothing about.
Unable to access PhoneBanking / Internet Banking because your security information is changed.
Tips to Avoid an Account Takeover
To avoid impersonation guard your personal information and documents.
Be particularly cautious if you receive a call from someone claiming to be from a bank or the police.
Never share your username and password information with third-party online service providers.
Never bank online at internet cafes.
If you fail to receive a bank statement, card statement, utility bill or other financial information contact the service provider immediately.
