Tips to Avoid an Account Takeover
A criminal needs your personal information to impersonate you. So always keep personal documents safe and secure. These include your passport, birth certificate, driving licence, plastic cards, card receipts and even utility bills.
Your bank will never ask for any confidential information like password, PIN etc. Never share this information with anyone.
Avoid use of "shared" usernames and passwords for online banking systems.
Use a different password for each website that is accessed.
Never leave a computer unattended while using any online banking or investment services.
Never access bank, brokerage or other financial services information at internet cafes, public libraries, etc. Unauthorised software may have been installed to trap account number and sign on information leaving you vulnerable to possible fraud.
If you move house make sure you contact your bank and give them your change of address.
Examples of how your personal information may be compromised
Removing post from your postbox or fraudulently redirecting your post.
Stealing personal information from your wallet, purse, home, vehicle, computer, emails you have sent or websites you’ve visited.

Tampering with cash machines and point-of-sale terminals, enabling thieves to read your debit or credit card number and PIN.
