Important Notice:Overseas ATM 
withdrawal tips
June 2013 
Dear Customer, 

To strengthen security controls for ATM services, as mandated by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (“HKMA”), all magnetic stripe ATM cards will be replaced by ATM chip cards by the end of March 2014. Enhanced security measures have also been adopted for overseas ATM services. We will mail the new ATM chip card(s) to customers in phases based on the various ATM card types from October 2012 to December 2013. If you do not have an ATM card and would like to apply for one, or if you have not received the new ATM chip card(s) within the scheduled period(1), please contact us. If you would like to use overseas ATM cash withdrawal services, please note the following:
Using the UnionPay network in Hong Kong and overseas with the new ATM UnionPay chip cards 
The new ATM UnionPay chip cards can be used at all HSBC and Hang Seng ATMs (except HSBC ATMs in Argentina, Brazil, France, Greece, Malta, Mexico, New Zealand, Panama and Turkey) plus the extensive UnionPay ATM and POS networks in Hong Kong, Mainland China and other countries. The new UnionPay chip cards can no longer be used on the PLUS/Cirrus network. At the moment some of the overseas UnionPay ATMs do not yet support UnionPay chip cards including those issued by HSBC Hong Kong. We are committed to resolving the situation to provide better service. If you have any enquiries, please contact us.
Linking your bank account to your credit card for PLUS/Cirrus network withdrawals 
If you wish to use the PLUS/Cirrus network, you may do so by linking your bank account(s) to your personal HKD Visa/MasterCard credit card(s) as follows: 
1.	Call the HSBC PhoneBanking hotline(2) or visit any local HSBC branch and inform them of your wishes 
2.	After your instruction is processed, make a cash withdrawal, transfer, or balance enquiry with your credit card at any HSBC or Hang Seng ATM in Hong Kong to activate the linked account(s).

You can activate your linked accounts | • 2 working days after submitting the application
Service Channels | Local HSBC Branches 
You can activate your linked accounts | • 4 working days after submitting the application 

3.	If you do not have an ATM PIN for your credit card(s), please apply for one through HSBC Internet Banking or at any local HSBC branch. If you have a PhoneBanking PIN, you can also request an ATM PIN through the PhoneBanking system (Quick key: after language selection, press 5 -> 3 -> 3). It takes around 4 to 6 working days to process new PIN request or instant PIN reset at branches via PIN Generator. 
After activating your linked account(s), you may access your bank account(s) through the PLUS/Cirrus ATM network. If the ATM does not show account selections (this will vary from bank to bank and an account selection service may not be available), a cash advance fee will be charged for a cash withdrawal from your credit card account.
Activating your overseas ATM withdrawal limit 
To comply with HKMA requirements, the overseas ATM daily withdrawal limit (including cash advances) has been pre-set to HK$0. If you have not yet set your ATM withdrawal limit, please do so for your credit card(s) or ATM card(s) through HSBC Internet Banking, HSBC PhoneBanking, HSBC Mobile Banking, any HSBC branch or any HSBC/Hang Seng ATM in Hong Kong.
Emergency encashment service 
If you need emergency cash assistance overseas, please call the HSBC PhoneBanking hotline. No service charge is required for HSBC Premier and HSBC Advance customers. 
Alternatively, you may choose to prepare enough cash in local currencies if needed before travelling.

1.	ATM chip card replacement schedule: 
•	Already completed	:	HSBC Premier, HSBC Premier Junior Pack, HSBC Advance, Personal Integrated Account*, Current Account, Enhanced Statement Savings Account and Cash Card Account 
•	Replacement in second half of 2013	: 	Hong Kong Dollar Savings Account, SuperEase Account, Revolving Credit Facility Account and University Student Account 
*	“Personal Integrated Accounts” or “SmartVantage”; Personal Integrated Accounts and SmartVantage accounts are used interchangeable in customer communications including account statements, bank forms/advice notices, internet banking platforms etc.  
2.	Only sole-name account can be linked via PhoneBanking. 
If there is any discrepancy between the English and Chinese versions, the English version shall prevail.
