Your HSBC Banking Services are moving to Nations Trust Bank

Dear Valued Customer,

After many years of having the privilege to serve you and your family, HSBC wishes to confirm that we will be transferring our Retail Banking operations in Sri Lanka, following the sale of our Retail Banking business—including accounts, credit cards and retail loans—to Nations Trust Bank PLC (NTB). This transfer is expected to take effect on 1 May 2026.

We would like to share what this means for you and what to expect next.

What to Expect Next

You will receive your Welcome Letter from NTB shortly, along with:

Your new account numbers plus details about your banking services that will apply following the transfer.

Your NTB Credit Card(s), as applicable, for use after the transfer.

Guidance on using your accounts and cards (including tariffs) after the transfer.

Digital Banking Onboarding Guide.

Your NTB Debit Card and cheque book for active accounts, as applicable, for use after the transfer.

Information on Tariffs, and Terms and Conditions.

Your new NTB account numbers, debit and credit card(s) and cheque book will be sent to you before completion of the transfer to NTB to assist you with the transition arrangements.

However, please note that these will not become effective until after the transfer of our business to NTB and should not be used until you have been informed that they are activated.

Important Notice

HSBC branches and express banking centres will close as usual at 3 pm on 30 April 2026, including ATMs.

You may continue to use your existing HSBC accounts and debit/credit card(s), Internet and Mobile Banking until 7 pm on 30 April 2026 after which point your HSBC cards and digital platforms will cease to operate.

If there are any changes to your banking relationship with HSBC before the transfer to NTB, this will be reflected in your NTB banking relationship at the time of transfer.

Plan Ahead: Banking Service Interruption During Final Transition
During the final transition all systems will be unavailable from 7 pm on 30 April 2026 until systems are back online at NTB and they will provide exact details when their services will be available for use, closer to the transition date.

Please note customers will not have access to any accounts or services during this period. This includes ATM access and credit card usage along with all online banking facilities. We recommend that you plan your payments and cash requirements accordingly.

Annexure 1 - Key Points to Note

Rates and Tenure

Rates and tenure of all your fixed deposits and loan facilities will remain unchanged until the end of the contractual period. For fixed deposits, at maturity, the new NTB fixed deposit rates will apply. For loans, on the next interest rate review date, the applicable interest rate will be recalculated based on NTB’s internal rate policy and/or market interest rate movements. Changes, if any, will be communicated by NTB.

For all products other than fixed deposits and loans, NTB new rates will apply effective 1 May 2026.

Debit and Credit Cards

In line with NTB’s product offering as applicable, HSBC Sri Lanka Cardholders will receive new NTB MasterCard Cards.

Powers of Attorney (PoA)

In the event an account specific PoA is granted for the operation of your accounts held with HSBC, the same will not be in effect post transfer. You are required to execute a fresh PoA incorporating the powers to operate your new accounts at NTB. Once completed and registered, the new PoA should be submitted to NTB. This will enable your Power of Attorney holder to carry out instructions pertaining to your new NTB account(s). The NTB welcome letter will contain steps to do so.

Branches

HSBC branches will begin operating as Nations Trust Bank PLC branches from the first working day following the transfer. However, the branch located at HSBC Head Office will continue to operate as our Corporate Banking branch. We request you to visit any of the other branches (operating under NTB) for your banking needs.

Nominations on Accounts

Please note that if you have placed any nominations for your existing accounts held with HSBC, the same will not be in effect post transfer. You are required to submit a fresh nomination form at the nearest NTB branch for your new NTB accounts, once transition is completed. The NTB welcome letter will contain steps to do so.

Cheques

HSBC cheque book will be invalid after the transition date. Any cheques issued prior to the transfer date, which remain valid when presented even after the transition, will be processed for up to 2 months following the transfer, subject to the availability of funds in your new replacement NTB account.

Statements and Credit Card Due Date

Your Account statements as at 30 April 2026 will be sent to you as usual by HSBC.

For credit cards, if your statement generation date is on 30 April 2026 or before, HSBC will send the statement. If the generation date is 1 May 2026 or after, NTB will send the statement.

If your HSBC Credit Card payment due date is on or before 30 April 2026, you should pay to your HSBC card number. If the HSBC Credit Card payment due date is on 1 May 2026 or after, please make your payment to your new NTB card number.

Protect yourself against fraudulent requests

Your security is our priority. HSBC and NTB will never request your banking details such as personal information, usernames, or passwords (by email, text, or phone) unless you have contacted us first. Do not share any of your sensitive information with 3rd parties who may appear to represent HSBC or NTB, under any pretext.

If you receive a call and are unsure of its authenticity, please follow these steps:

  • End the conversation immediately.
  • Wait at least 15 seconds to ensure the line is fully disconnected.
  • Call the number on the back of your HSBC or NTB credit or debit card to verify and escalate your concern.
